It has been said that feng shui home design can help change your life for the better.  Although feng shui strongly relies on direction and placement, another aspect involves color.  As colors powerfully influence mood and appeal, it can also apparently reflect the fortunes and misfortunes in one’s life.  This ancient Chinese system can invite beneficial energies that can manipulate your love life, career, finances, health, and more.  You do not need to re-paint an entire room per se, but perhaps simply painting a small wall or a door one of the colors that adheres to your feng shui needs can tremendously shift your life’s direction.

Naturally, blue is a color of relaxation.  It instills calmness and reflects knowledge.  This color is perfect for a home office or study as it stimulates contemplation.  In business terms, blue can resemble reliability and consistency.  It can also be appropriate for a nursery or children’s room due to its ability to reduce stress and tension levels.  Another ideal color for a young child or a teen’s room is green.  Green is also associated with peace and tranquility, while emphasizing equilibrium.  Color therapists suggest that this color reduces migraines and balances mood swings, thus reflecting good health.  This color should also be considered for the family room.  Yellow is also great for the family room, or more broadly, the center of your home.  As yellow reflects authority and tolerance, it is particularly a great color in households containing multiple children.

Alternately, red is a stimulator.  Simply radiating with energy, red can easily attain attention and increase brain activity.  It also represents love, happiness, and growth.  However, one must notice that red can be very overwhelming if overused.   If used sparingly, red can add warmth and comfort to small areas.  Because of this, it is a very popular color choice for dining rooms.  Orange is a great alternative to red as it is stimulating but not nearly as strong.

Grey has proven to help accentuate bold and bright colors, particularly in subduing a bright trim.  This makes sense as grey is condoned as a color of connection.  For this reason, this color is appropriate for any room.  However, it is particularly successful in rooms with frequent human interaction.

Feng shui does not dictate that certain rooms should be painted certain colors.  The colors should simply reflect feng shui elements and personal color connotations.  Overall, it is important to note how these colors have an effect on you and also how they correlate with a room’s existing decor and color scheme.  Perhaps even consider using these colors for accenting with decorative pillows and accessories.
